Video Marketing: 3 Great Irish Examples

  1. The first add I have chosen  is 3’s Christmas add 2015 ‘The Perfect Surprise’.

Threes adds never fail to impress. The video marketing is always very creative and uplifting. This marketing video was a little on the different side compared to other years for three, in 2014 The Perfect Surprise ad  was released onto our screens before Christmas.  It showed a little girl getting a cloud as a gift for Christmas. Students from a school in Galway named Athenry college took it about themselves to write to three after this add was released. They  wrote to three claiming it was false advertising and unrealistic to get a cloud for Christmas.  What three did next was very unexpected but extremely creative. Instead of relying with a letter of apology they made Athenry’s college playground area into a winter wonderland. They also had Irish Rugby player Paul O’Connell make an appliance in the ad. The children faces lit up with joy and the ad spread rapidly on social media. It gave people a new outlook on the three brand and had hundreds talking and tweeting about the brand positively straight away. This is exactly what the branded wanted to achieve and shows that bad publicity and negative comments can be out done with a great mind behind the brands video marketing.

2. The second add I have chosen is one we’ve all probably seen, the Aerlingus ad ‘Bringing people home for Christmas since 1936’.

I still find this the most heart warming ad yet, bringing a tear to me eye overtime I watch it. Is there really a better feeling than being home for Christmas? It is a simple yet extremely effective ad. The clip shows airlines bringing 5 people home from Christmas, some have not seen their families or been home in over 14 years. The video went viral last Christmas (December 2015) and viewers were left touched by the brand. The majority of the video was self recorded with hand held cameras by the five chosen people to fly home. The piece captures the Christmas spirit wonderfully and the Irish culture when one mammies words are ‘Jesus Christ almighty tonight’. This video was a huge success as it played on the emotions very well and got recognized all over twitter and Facebook by shares, tweets and re-tweets.

capture13. The third add I have chosen is Piggy Sue the Vodafone Ireland add.

This ad also has a play on emotions, its set in rural Ireland and the first thing we see is a man who has a found a little piglet on the road and goes about finding her owner. He has no luck first of all and then starts to bond with the pig by offering her custard creams and later on taking her home and giving her shelter. When Aine the owner of the piglet contacts Brian he brings her to the farm where she belongs but sees a sign for free range pork and is quickly on the road home again with piggy sue.  People around the country were charmed by the little pig. Its great when an ad tugs on the little heart strings we have as it makes it memorable.
