Video Marketing: 3 Great Irish Examples

  1. The first add I have chosen  is 3’s Christmas add 2015 ‘The Perfect Surprise’.

Threes adds never fail to impress. The video marketing is always very creative and uplifting. This marketing video was a little on the different side compared to other years for three, in 2014 The Perfect Surprise ad  was released onto our screens before Christmas.  It showed a little girl getting a cloud as a gift for Christmas. Students from a school in Galway named Athenry college took it about themselves to write to three after this add was released. They  wrote to three claiming it was false advertising and unrealistic to get a cloud for Christmas.  What three did next was very unexpected but extremely creative. Instead of relying with a letter of apology they made Athenry’s college playground area into a winter wonderland. They also had Irish Rugby player Paul O’Connell make an appliance in the ad. The children faces lit up with joy and the ad spread rapidly on social media. It gave people a new outlook on the three brand and had hundreds talking and tweeting about the brand positively straight away. This is exactly what the branded wanted to achieve and shows that bad publicity and negative comments can be out done with a great mind behind the brands video marketing.

2. The second add I have chosen is one we’ve all probably seen, the Aerlingus ad ‘Bringing people home for Christmas since 1936’.

I still find this the most heart warming ad yet, bringing a tear to me eye overtime I watch it. Is there really a better feeling than being home for Christmas? It is a simple yet extremely effective ad. The clip shows airlines bringing 5 people home from Christmas, some have not seen their families or been home in over 14 years. The video went viral last Christmas (December 2015) and viewers were left touched by the brand. The majority of the video was self recorded with hand held cameras by the five chosen people to fly home. The piece captures the Christmas spirit wonderfully and the Irish culture when one mammies words are ‘Jesus Christ almighty tonight’. This video was a huge success as it played on the emotions very well and got recognized all over twitter and Facebook by shares, tweets and re-tweets.

capture13. The third add I have chosen is Piggy Sue the Vodafone Ireland add.

This ad also has a play on emotions, its set in rural Ireland and the first thing we see is a man who has a found a little piglet on the road and goes about finding her owner. He has no luck first of all and then starts to bond with the pig by offering her custard creams and later on taking her home and giving her shelter. When Aine the owner of the piglet contacts Brian he brings her to the farm where she belongs but sees a sign for free range pork and is quickly on the road home again with piggy sue.  People around the country were charmed by the little pig. Its great when an ad tugs on the little heart strings we have as it makes it memorable.

They don’t just tweet text they tweet pictures and videos in order to keep customers interested. Every one of their tweets has a hashtag on it and this helps them to expand their twitter presence. They have a gallery of impressive photos on their page that is very appealing to the eye and is seen straight away once on their profile.screen-shot-2016-11-29-at-12-26-02

  2. Starbucks post regularly throughout the day and are very aware of their target audience. What Starbucks do very well is interact with their followers. Starbucks regularly retweet and favourite customers tweets. This shows they have an interest in their customers thoughts. screen-shot-2016-10-26-at-09-41-13 Starbucks also reply quickly and effectively to negative tweets and try to resolve the problem so there are no unsatisfied customers.

  1. Victoria’s secret has over 10.2m followers, they are very focused on their audience with over 2/3 of it being women. There is a twitter hashtag set up for models and promoters that is used so by searching that hashtag followers can not only see what the vs page is saying it will give them insight into what models and other followers are thinking and tweeting also. The twitter page of vs has plenty of fashion show content. They post regularly updating customers and followers about their new products and upcoming fashion shows. They also interact with the VS models on a number of accounts, even wishing them happy birthday. The profile picture is very clearly their brand name, simple yet effective. The cover photo is two models, projecting very happy smiles, it makes the page quite inviting to follow. From their tweets they do not just show their clothing that is available to purchase, they show catwalk modelling and even gym workouts used by the vs models themselves. They also interact with followers who are having problems with ordering items online or products purchased in a friendly and professional manner.

    3. Missguided

Missguided have 398k followers on twitter, which is a substantial amount for an online clothing brand. They currently have 90.2k tweets and counting. They post regularly every day, making followers aware of new fashion trends,  available discounts and the latest clothing online. There are numerous reasons I find missguided one of the top brands on twitter. One being how interactive they are with followers, they re-tweet and favorite followers who have mentioned missguided in tweets or posted about their brand, this shows followers that missguided are interested in what they do and would encourage them to post again. It also helps missguided themselves as it is their opportunity to see what customers think.  What missguided have also done very well is set up a separate twitter page named missguided help, this is for customers and followers to ask questions about any needs or query’s. A support team is behind the page and are on hand seven days a week. I myself have had to use this page and they reply straight away, I was very satisfied with this service on twitter as they were able to track my parcel straight away and tell me how much longer I would be waiting. I  feel this is a huge benefit to keeping customers  satisfied.

5 Tips to Improve Your Facebook Page

No.1 – Insure your Facebook page is a business page and not a friend account. It is much easier for customers to be able to like the page straight away rather than waiting on the business to accept the request that has been sent. There is no limit on the number of fans a Facebook page however there is a cap on the amount of friends you can have on a profile page.

No.2 – Ensure that your profile picture has the brand name visible in it. You will want customers to recognize this straight away, it is very important for being found and liked. It is going to be the first impression people get of your business page. Combining your profile picture with your cover photo can create a cool design but you must insure that the profile picture can stand on its own as that is what it will be doing for the majority time.

James Street has the brand name visible in the cover photo but it is not a great example as the profile picture and cover photo are not combined.

No.3 – Make sure to fill in an about section. It is one of the first things people will look for so make sure to keep it up to date and include key information. By doing this people can understand what your page is about before they even like you. It is  also a good idea to include a link to your website in this section.

The Clarion Hotel has utilised their about section anyone on their page can find out their contact number, where the location is etc.

No.4 – Avoid lengthly posts. A long rambling posts will never get the likes, shares and comments you’re looking for. You have to keep posts short and sweet if you want costumers to read them. Generally posts should be kept between 100-125 characters.

No.5 – Focus on engaging with the customers. Ask your audience to share their thoughts and feedback on your products and services. This will help to improve your business. also if you post content that shows you took their feedback into consideration it will show that you value the audiences idea and can help build customer loyalty .
